MAPPING DRONES

Since the advent of technology and globalization, life has been made easier. This is because it has affected various sectors life which includes the medical and health sector, transportation services, the educational system, and even the agricultural sector. All these sectors have had a positive light shone on them and it would seem that there are even better days ahead. The agricultural sector has now experienced a recent development as the production of agricultural drones has proven to be beneficial to large scale farmers. This gives the farmers an opportunity to monitor the changes and developments of their farms from the comforts of their homes or offices.

Thermal Imaging By Agricultural Drones

Agricultural drones after been produced were encouraged to be used by farmers whose farmlands were greater than 444 acres by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in conjunction with the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF). These drones give the farmers an edge as they can easily manage their farmlands and monitor crop growth quickly and efficiently without having to do a personal survey. These are a few of the provisions that have been made possible due to the productions of these drones.

Increased Crop Production

These drones give a bird’s eye view of the vast land thereby helping the farmer to note the areas where there are sources of pest or fungal infestations and improve on them. They give multispectral images and also an infrared view of crop production that aids in drawing the farmer’s attention to certain areas of interests that he or she may not be able to see with the naked eye. The drones can be programmed to give daily, weekly and even monthly reports on the changes or developments that occur in the farm and this could include taking data of the effects of pesticides and fertilizers that are being used on the crops. This has greatly improved crop yield and has also served as a means of encouraging more people to join the agricultural system due to the fact that the operational costs are much lower.

Improved Irrigational System

Thermal imaging which is one of the functions carried out by these agricultural zones converts the radiation pattern of an object into a visible image. This has been greatly beneficial to the agricultural sector as it the knowledge derived from these drones can be used in studying plant physiology, irrigation scheduling and also serve as a form of a forecast for crop yield. This imaging has a form of superiority over satellite-based monitoring systems as there are no obstructions from clouds and they are less disturbed by glitches that occur in the atmosphere. Thermal imaging has greatly contributed to irrigation by helping to create a proper schedule through which these plants are adequately watered thereby ensuring uniformity in the maturity of these plants. This beats the traditional irrigation system where the whole field is watered but it is not taken into account the percentage of water intake by the plants. These drones give a form of precision in the approach to agriculture.

Mapping Of Farmlands By Agricultural Drones

Drones have contributed largely to the mapping and sectioning of individual farmlands by giving a clear and detailed view that is direct from the atmosphere. This helps farmers to allocate their lands in sections and also know the regions they own when in comparison with neighboring farmland. The mapping also provides information for local regional and state planning and creates room for interested agencies to have access to information detailing the various sections as this will help in their decision making. When mapping these farmlands, the inventories of natural resource survey and soil survey are taken into consideration. This can be achieved by placing sensors in fields which are also present in these drones, sensors in tractors and from satellites high above. In a mixed farming system, the inventory of livestock can also be derived and this can also include areas where overgrazing has occurred in order for suitable measures to be taken to curb it.

Various organizations such as the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) use the mappings carried out by these drones to create a standard by which farmers can easily determine the crops that are most likely to thrive in a particular region. This could be achieved by using the sensors on these drones to calculate temperature regulation and also to determine the soil hardness of each zone.

This is to say that these agricultural drones provide a geographic guide on the most suitable locations for plants survival. The various types of drones used are; Parrot by Disco Pro AG & Anafi , also you can find mapping and thermal imaging abilities at DJI by the AGRAS & Mavic Enterprise models.

In recent years, improvements have been made to these drones and it has been programmed that they can also be used for inspecting solar panels and for fighting fires as they possess thermal cameras which are able to see through smoke. The thermal detectors can show the condition of a burning roof, search for victims in the fire and also detect the hottest spots in the fire outbreak. They have also been designed to carry out radiometric temperature measurements of a surface by interpreting the intensity of an infrared signal reaching the seo-automated-link-building-1 lens of the drones and this can all be done in large areas or dangerous conditions. Modifications have also been made for these drones to perform aerial electrical inspections in farmlands and also in residential areas, this has been greatly propounded by thermographers. The use of drones is yet to fully be inculcated into the agricultural system as some farmers are yet to accept it. This is because these drones can easily be used to spy on the progress of rival farmlands without having to be there in person, not to mention the fact that the drones can easily bump into crash dusters when not properly monitored. However, it is advised that such devices should be in the hands of experts where it can be sufficiently controlled. The agricultural sector still awaits the outbreak of another form of technological advancement to further spread its wings across the globe.
